The Good Luck Mercantile Company is a place to experience and purchase colorful, whimsical dressings for your body and your home. A place to stretch your imagination and have fun. Collecting tribal textiles, cultural icons, linens, sculptures and, yes, patches, began half a century ago for me.
This company, however, began more recently with the purchase of a single very large cat patch made for clothing . That patch was put onto a round rattan purse from Asia. When I saw that purse, a light bulb went off in my head, which snowballed into the creation and importing of more, very large whimsical patches. This led to playing with these patches on different items… purses, jean jackets, baby clothes, colorful Indian jackets and more. The ball was rolling! In my search for materials from all around the world, I saw other beautiful items….quilts made of sarees from India, fun, affordable jewelry from other parts of Asia, intricate embroideries from Uzbekistan.
When people began responding enthusiastically, I knew the collection of goods made people happy to wear and happy to surround themselves with. My background is in textiles. I am also an avid crafts person using many materials and this collection reflects these art forms from the tribal to the flamboyant. Experience the beauty of global crafts in their original form or reconstructed through the lens of my aesthetic.
